WHY ANYONE CAN NOT BECOME A MGR?

M.G.Ramachandran the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was a perfect ICON who could inspire millions of our men and women by sheer looks. He was not a great actor like his contemporary Sivaji Ganesan was and yet his movies ran in to packed houses. He was a leading personality of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam a party founded for asserting the rights of non brahmins in Tamil nadu. The founder of DMK had told that if MGR shows his face, that would fetch him 30000 votes. MGR always played the role of good samaritan in all his movies, defending the honor of women, remain a teetotaller and non smoker on screen. His songs were about social issues, integrity, probity and morals in personal lives. He had no political ambition whatsoever till the present CM Karunanidhi expelled him from the party for anti party activities. He started his own Party Anna DMK which unseated DMK and until his last breath, MGR was holding sway over Tamil masses. Even when Congress and DMK combined in an alliance MGR romped home with a thumping majority. He was a man of the masses, caring for the downtrodden underprivileged, and he represented the aspirations of the uneducated rural youth and women of tamil Nadu. In this era of coalition politics, had he been alive, may be he could have even become Prime Minister as did Deve Gowda.

his dominance was complete when the present CM recently acknowledged that it was MGR who made him the successor to Annadurai who infact nurtured and preferred Nedunchezhiyan. His populist schemes like Mid day meal scheme for children- an extension of Kamraj's mid day meal scheme, free dhoti saree for destitutes, free footwear etc endeared him to the masses. He was looked upon as an incarnation of God by many in Tamil Nadu.

The success of MGR motivated many other actors to plunge in to politics. that included Chiranjivi in AP who could not establish a Pan Andhra appeal as could NTR. Rajinikant another popular actor of tamil cinema was tipped to be a future CM and even stalwarts like late Moopanar and Chidambaram were willing to be his palanquin bearers. Tamil Media was agog at the prospect of Rajni donning the role of CM. Rajini is an anti thesis of what MGR stood for. But he had wide following among the youth of Tamil Nadu. somehow or other despite all this propaganda, Rajini chose to remain in films and ignored the call to enter politics. At this time another claimant in the form of Vijayakant entered the scene. The press was not kind tohim and yet he managed to garner 8% of popular votes in a assembly and Lok Sabha polls. He advocated a third line- different from DMK and ADMK and the neutral votes were tilting towards him. Just then this talk of his aligning with ADMK has come. Some Industrialists and Journalists like Cho Ramaswamy are doing overtime to defeat DMK and Congress Combine which is very formidable with this new alliance. I am sure, vijaykant will bite the dust if he ever chooses to align with either of the parties for he will lose his neutral appeal. Further it took MGR almost  25 years to reach Fort St.George which no other actor could ever aspire to reach
