THE INCORRIGIBLE BRAHMIN
Every year, he conducts his anniversary of the magazine with participation of his readers in Public places. This year too was no exception but we saw a very different CHO RAMASWAMY fit to become AIADMK functionary. This time he started lying. Well believe me it was a monumental lie. To a question as to why some people have a mistrust for his bias in views towards Muslims and Dalits he claimed to have many readers from Muslim community for his magazine which may be true. But he went a step further. He claimed that he convassed for Jagajivan Ram to become PM when he was nominated by Janatha Party and it was Karunanidhi who blocked the efforts by aligning with Indira Gandhi. This was a monumental unparalleled white lie for which the penance prescribed in Manu Dharma which he espouses in his columns is cutting of the tongue.
Jagjivan Ram was never ever a PM candidate of the Janatha Party. When Charan Singh walked out with 50 odd MPs seeking support of Indira Gandhi, when the effervescent George Fernandez quit the party on the issue of dual membership, a section of the party felt that by proclaiming Jagjivan Ram to be the successor to the then PM Morarji Desai, they could survive on the support of Dalit MPS cutting across party lines. Morarji Desai refused. Cho Ramaswamy justified the obstinacy of Desai claiming as to how can one expect him to vacate in favor of one who always back stabbed him? Prior to the split in the Congress, Desai was Finance Minister under Indira Gandhi and he was unceremoniously sacked. At that time Ram was with Indira Gandhi. Ram was a Minister till Emergency was lifted and then came out with his Congress for Democracy which was not originally part of the Janatha combine. Again it was MGR who shared cabinet post with Charan Singh through Bala Palanoor and Sathiyavani Muthu and Karunanidhi had alliance with Janatha Party . to claim Karunanidhi stood inthe way of his efforts to install Jagjivanram as PM is a lie not even the worst politician in India has ever made. What a fall Mr. Cho Ramaswamy?
I can quote two more instances of blatant bias of Cho. One reader asked him to compare MGR and Karunanidhi. Cho Said Karunanidhi toiled for his posts while MGR got it as a lottery. when Jayalalitha said to Karan thapar that she owed her rise in politics to none but to her sheer hardwork, Cho said that people vote for AIADMK not for MGR but for her. He never acknowledged MGR save for publishing his photo on the cover of his magazine when in 1980, MGR lost the parliamentary elections in the company of Janatha Party.
When Jayalalitha went after Kanchi Sankaracharya, the criticism was muted Had it been Karunanidhi, Cho would have been more vocal in his criticism.
More about one more such personality, Subramanian Swamy in the next post.
