Dr.Subramanian Swamy shot in to limelight when during Emergency, he appeared in Lok Sabha dramatically and escaped arrest. Those days he was protected by a DMK regime in Tamil Nadu which also provided shelter to some other fugitives. Like Cho Ramaswamy, he is also a South Indian Brahmin who had gone out of his native Cholavandan long before Dravidian movement crushed the brahmin monopoly in Tamil Nadu with Agraharams, the brahmin colonies wearing  a deserted look. However he made friends cutting across caste,religious lines with his behaviour and spakling knowledge. He had even paid visits to household functions of his party members. He is down to earth and does not possess the arrogance of a Jayalalitha or Cho even though he has common cause with them. 

Dr.Swamy has always fought against duplicity and has to his credit the un masking of RK Hegde who professed value based politics while practising immoral means to survive in politics. any one remembers the Ramalingam commission of enquiry establishing that the Moily tape was doctored to sling mud at Veerappa Moily? Swamy had been a vehement critic of VP Singh, LTTE and a staunch supporter of Rajiv Gandhi due to whose munificence, he became Commerce Minister under Chandrasekar., 

Swamy fought relentlessly to expose Jayalalitha and got Governor's sanction to prosecute her in Coal import case. Although she was later acquitted, Jayalalitha poured venom on him, directing her party cadres to stage demonstrations and ugly and obsecene acts whenever he landed in chennai. Those days DMK cadres only gave him a ring of support. Swamy's aide Chandralekha former Secretary to Government of Tamil nadu who became his party's Tamil Nadu leader was thrown acid bulbs on her by some  hirelings and rougue elements. Her beautiful face was disfigured. Today, Dr.Swamy frequently visits Poes Garden for a cup of tea to discuss common agenda of throwing out DMK regime.

When Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi was hunted by AIADMK Regime, Dr.Swamy spoke to an audience in USA held under the auspices of Kanchi Kamokoti.org he claimed to be in possession of a 33 rd letter allegedly written by the slain Sankararaman which claimed that it was Sasikala's henchmen who looted ornaments of the deity of Varadaraja Perumal and this letter was handed over to him by the then DGP of Tamil Nadu. This he claimed was the reason for the gruesome murder and he claimed that he will reveal the letter at the appropriate moment. I have watched  this CD with some of my friends. I am not sure if Dr.Swamy made a baseless allegation or he was in possession of any material facts of the case. But today, Dr.Swamy is the bosom friend of Jayalalitha. 

The sustained campaign in 2G allocation scam was spear headed by Dr.Swamy through his private petition on the non reply to his letter seeking prosecution of Raja from Prime Minister. PM was admonished by the Supreme Court. But the credibility of this self styled whistle blower is at the lowest ebb now.If he can maintain his perceived integrity, people would trust him. He was believed to be close to controversial godman Nemi Chand Gandhi aka Chandraswamy and his links to Iran Arms dealer are in public domain for long. Dr.Swamy brought down Vajpayee government by one vote in his tea party hosted to coronate Sonia Gandhi. To day he is a vocal and strident critic of Sonia gandhi and unabashed worshipper of Jayalalitha. It is for Dr.Swamy to explain his frequent somesaults.
