What a Faux Pass Mr.Chidambaram

I had a high regard for the intellectual brilliance of our Home Minister Mr.Palaniappan Chidambaram. He was lording over the Home Ministry with aplomb, making progress in peace initiatives with J & K Militants, sending right messages of warnings to Maoists, took the bull by the horns when he sent a team of officials to West Bengal to assess ground realities of political rivalry between CPM and TMC cadres. Just when every one though he could be the chosen man for Sonia as and when our PM feels tired, he committed a faux pass. In the light of the worsening situation in Andhra Pradesh following the fast un to death of TRS Chieftan Chandrasekara Rao, our learned Home minister issued a statement which came as a thunderbolt to all party men in Congress. No one was sure as to whether the Home Minister had the backing of the UPA chairperson and his PM. Mr.Chidambaram announced that AP Legislative assembly will bring forward a bill to bifurcate the state in to two- Telengana and the other Andhra. This helped to cool the tempers with Chandrasekara Rao calling off his fast, Pro Telengana MLAs embracing each other. Well Destiny willed otherwise. Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra felt they were wronged and a hasty CM Mr. Rosaiah had to find fault with the announcement of Home Minister which has opened a pandora's box. Chidambaram could have played a little more sagacity could have consulted all stakeholders before making this announcement. I believe inthe rules of destiny for the Home Minister on the other day when he locked horns with BJP on the issue of Liberhan report indicting all BJP men including Vajpayee but exonerating PV Narasimha Rao, admitted that PVN indeed committed indiscretion when he was a silent spectator when a unruly mob went about pulling down the mosque. Well it is another story that PVN never acknowledged PC for all his abilities since he was only a Minister of State under him. More shocking was the haste with which PVN pocketed PC's resignation in the wake of allotment of promoter quota of FFSL Shares in the aftermath of Harshad Mehta episode. But PC did a great disservice when he admitted unwittingly PVN's and thereby his party's complicity in the criminal act. This was akin to Sonia Gandhi offering apologies for Operation Blue Star.

It is rumoured that Prime minister Dr.Manmohan singh has a profound distaste for this Harvard educated Minister. He manouvred to get him shunted out of Finance Ministry hoping that he will come a cropper in the Home Ministry. But now PC has handed over a chance to PM to advise his dropping for the greatest ever indiscretion committed by a Minister for which he seems to be unrepentant.
