The rise of Surat as a manufactuing hub for diamond industry, the industrial activity in vadodara, valsad,Ahmadebad, the powerlooms of surat, are glowing tribute to gujararti enterprise. Thelikes of Nikhil Gandhi, Adanis leave alone politically connected Ambanis made every gujarati proud. They would have succeeded even without Modi at the helm of affairs. This is not to deny Modi his competence to rule the state without a challenger within his own party. Modi has ensured that he got his priorities right and ensured that his party bosses gave him enormous freedom to carry on whatever he thought fit. In his concluding day address to his people Modi claimed to have replied Justice Chachar that he has done nothng for minorities nor anything for majorities either claiming that he treated all of them as one - as Gujaratis. Modi forgot to admit that he did polarise Gujaratis in to Hindus and non hindus- The charge against him is that he failed in his constitutionaL duty to protect his own people when violent mobs were lynching innocent muslims. True Godhrra carnage triggerred the riots but is the CM not responsible to protect lives of innocent minorities. At themost he owed an apology. That he chose not totake up responsibility for the unfortunate riots and express his sympathies to the victims disqualfies him from being contender to the highest office in the country.
