GREEN ENERGY
Nobel lauerate Dr.Pachouri suggested dividing India in to two time zones whereby peak demand of power could be effectively controlled and supply pitfalls could be addressed. The large scale hydel power plants are another solution to this vexatious issue of green power. We have abundant flow of Brahmaputra in Assam and north eastern states which if harnessed could add up 10000 MW of power. This is an estimate without taking in to account the alleged diversion of the river by the Chinese.
It is now reliably learnt that the Government has decided to scale down the solar power installation to 4000 MW because the Finance Ministry has thrown up its hands in financing the huge requirement of about 2 lac crores of Rupees. I wonder why the government has not thought of levying green tax or pollution tax on existing power plants which will fetch an additional stream of funds to install solar power plants.
