    The on going trial on the disproportionate assets of Ms.Jayalalitha is perhaps the most dragged on case in the history of India. It was in the year 2001 when she and her party were routed, the sucessor Government expedited the cases by getting the venue shifted to Karnataka. The defendants were seeking djoutnments on a routine basis with the fond hope that in the following election if they ride back to power, the case could be fixed. They did make a comeback nevertheless but an unfriendly government in Karnataka made the task of closing the case difficult. Tables turned once again for this time DMK Congress combine made it to Fort St Geroge albeit technically DMK did not have numbers of its own falling short of majority. By this time, 2G scam broke out and SC which was in a fix following allegations of judicial corruption made by Prashant and Shanti Bhushan in an interview to Tehelka took up Public interest litigations very seriously and contrarty to parliamentary practice placed reliance on CAG report which normally falls within the domain of Parliament. Then this case could not be ignored. Remember, SC almost exonerated Jayalalitha in the TANSI case only passing strictures to atone for her sins. For Mayawati same SC had different yardstick,. That is again another issue.

     

    Jayalalitha wanted to avoid appearing before the special court pleading that she be exempted as she is in Z category security and she has to discharge her official functions as elected CM of Tamil Nadu. She wanted the court to send a questinaiire which she said she will most certainly answer. High Court and SC could have none of this and ordered her to appear to answer questions. She did with a cavalcade of Cars and securitymen in Parappana Agrahaara of Bangalore where the Special court is located. All her answers were monosyllables as I do not know. I do not remember and all that. By this time some of her advisors worked out an idea which could help her enormously. The co accused and her closest aid for 3 decades Sasikala was expelled from the party for meddling in administration. Her admirers called for celebrations stating that Madam has woken up to cleanse her administration. What they forgot and thought people will forget is that Sasikala was her bosom friend for 3 decades and this meddling has been all along happening.

    Now Sasikala has started answering questions. First she said that Sasi Enterprises was entirely run by her and Jayalalitha was a silent partner. This meant that if the allegations are that ill gotten wealth was earned througn this company, it was entirely her fault. The she said that the witnesses have been intimidated to depose against her. She wanted intrepretations of all documents and even afer that she claimed that she does not know English and the court probably can not understand her mothertongue. SC would have none of it and asked to provide an intrepretor. This further delayed her answers as on 3 days she answered almost irrelevantly hardly 40 questions eventhough she needs to answer 1000 odd questions.

    SC is a silent spectator in brazen violation of judicial process for it involves Jayalalitha. Had it been Mayawati they could have come forward to pass strictures.

    The irony is this case was file by crusader against Corruption Dr.Swamy who got the sanction to prosecute from  Channa Reddy and exposed her. To day he has broken bread with her and is her closest ally next only to Cho Ramaswamy. Now his target is Chidambaram. Courts are entertaining this man's antics to salvage their lost image following allegations of judicial corruption by Bhushan duo. The contempt case is stillpending before the Bench of Justice Altmas Kabir who wanted an apology without which a can of worms will be opened. No apology has been tendered by Bhushans and surprisingly no can of worms have opened up.
