One person was detained today in connection with the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl here, the police said.

“One person has been detained and he is being interrogated,” city superintendent of police Manoj Ratan told PTI here.

The girl's body was found in a under-construction building near her home at Darjie Mohallah in the city yesterday and

post mortem report had confirmed that the girl was raped and strangulated to death.

Meanwhile, president of Jharkhand Mahila Congress Abha Sinha today alleged that the "ineffectiveness" of Ranchi administration

had led to the rape and murder of the five-year-old girl in the city.

The ineffective Ranchi administration was responsible for the gruesome rape and murder of the innocent child, she said.

"For two days the girl went missing and though her parents had informed the police, no attempt was made to trace the little girl,"

Leading a protest march of the Mahila Congress in the city, Sinha said, "We feel ashamed of such incidents. Yesterday too bodies of two other minor girls had been recovered in Jamtara with reports of rape. The administration should take immediate steps to stop such incidents."
