The Indian media and entertainment (M&E) industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the country. Its various segments, film, television, advertising, print and digital have witnessed a tremendous growth in the last few years. The industry is highly driven by strong consumption in non-metro and small cities, intense emergence of regional media and burgeoning new media businesses and formats.

He further added, "Cable digitisation, the promise of wireless broadband, increasing DTH penetration, digitisation of film distribution, growing Internet use are all prompting strategic shifts in the way companies work. Traditional business models are evolving for the better as a host of new opportunities emerge."

Media and Entertainment can be further categorized into television and digitalisation, radio, newspaper, and internet and mobile entertainment.

Careers in Media & Entertainment Industry

M&E industry is a very vivid and versatile industry and the scope of a career in this field is vast and varied. Thus, there is no dearth of media & entertainment industry jobs. These unique jobs not only offer promising future but also provide immense creative satisfaction.  This industry will continue to grow in double digits which translate into more options and better pay packages.

Most media organisations in India are in the private sector, while quite a few are owned by the government. The government media units in which one can seek jobs are: Akashvani (All India Radio), Prasar Bharti, Doordarshan, Direct to Home, Press information bureau, Press Council of India, Song and Drama Division, Film Division, National Film Archive of India, etc. 

Besides the government agencies, media companies, industrial houses and start-ups backed by venture money are all launching newspapers, magazines and television channels. In the film industry, technical jobs include story and script writing for film and television, copywriting for advertisements, cinematography, photography, sound mixing and recording, direction of films and promotional ventures etc.
