Apple Next Generation iPhone
The latest Apple iOS devices, Verizon’s iPhone 4 and iPad 2, feature a Qualcomm MDM6600 processor that supports both CDMA and GSM technology. This made people speculate that Apple’s next generation smartphone will be a world phone.
Verizon Wireless’ CFO Fran Shammo was quoted during an investor conference call last month that the fifth generation Apple iPhone will be a dual-mode world phone. That means it will work in many countries around the world.
The iPhone 5 or 4S is also rumored to have the capability to run on LTE networks. But this will depend on how Apple feels about the current state of its chips and whether LTE will not compromise its battery life and aesthetics.
Apple invests a lot of money and other resources in the design of its products and a design change in a year would not be something that the company will be willing to do. There are rumors that the next Apple smartphone will be called iPhone 4S and not iPhone 4G. It will support HSPA+, which is considerably faster than 3G but not in the level of 4G speeds.
If the rumors are true then the iPhone 4S will be unveiled in September. It will also have a A5 processor that will improve graphics and overall performance.
