A proxy fight
It said how the partition was proponed to match the 15th August -which was the day of glory for
But the real cause was Jinnah’s sickness without whom partition would not have materialized. Britons were reconciled to the idea of leaving
It is well known that Jinnah, kept his sickness a secret and he was eager for the post. But not many know that Nehru could have prevented it if he was not so hopelessly enamored by
Of the two leaders, there cannot be any comparison as Nehru cultivated a soft civilized image. On the other hand, Jinnah was the proverbial go getter, who did not shy from a bloodbath to serve his purpose. One was perpetrator, the other a docile spectator.
The raw terror that had followed had made the two nations permanent enemies..
Though it had happened long time ago, my family bleeds from that trauma even today.
There was a time, I used to have vehement hatred for Jinnah as I believed he was the chief architect of partition. But with age my viewpoints have changed. Now I feel, but for partition, the whole of
Last few years we have seen, sporadic acts of terror. It would have been a way of life, as it is in
In ancient times, history used to be written by kings and queens.
In modern times the same is done by leaders. They often write on controversial topics. They have the readership to attract the publishers and controversy sells. So no wonder JS has chosen Jinnah as the protagonist of his book.
The reaction of BJP also seems to be well calculated. BJP is providing JS the best publicity he could ever hope to get. Result is simple, people will read and some will blame Nehru and Congress can't say a single thing against BJP. It can’t say that BJP is trying tarnish its great PM.
The negative publicity to JS will make educated people refresh their memory , read a few old books and some of the charisma of great Nehru will be rubbed off in the process. It is plain politics.
But should the leaders of a national party stoop so low as to attack one of the most sacred principle of Indian democracy ;the freedom of speech. Congress can’t say a thing. Because for electoral popularity, they already had used this weapon. They too have banned books. Survival in the dirty politics make the clean people also dirty. So no wonder BJP is playing same dirty tricks practiced by its opponents.
