As the election results were getting announced, my feelings were mixed. A part of my mind was sad to see that India was heading for the continuation of dynastic rule.

As the media channels incessantly harped on Rahul I was sad that a country of 1 billion did not have a single leader to replace the scions of Gandhi family. But it was also true during the entire election campaign it was Rahul Gandhi, who used the least abusive language against his opponents, refused to be browbeaten by the Lalu company and campaigned hard. In fact he started dining with Dalit people much before election was announced.

Of course he has the advantage of landing into the top of leadership, right from his ancestral political helicopter, blessed with good looks and privileged upbringing. It really dilutes some of his achievements. But even if the background privilege is discounted, he stands on his own. Or am I influenced by the media hype?

Media to a great extent engineered the victory for Congress. They painted NDA really black and a part of me was sad to see the victory of this manipulative force.

A part of me was sad for LK Advani too. This man at the age of 81 has really worked hard. He was a politician of the bygone era where people had certain ideals. True during the campaign he tried to copy the mannerism of young politicians but a part of me was sad to see this man defeated in the last political battle of his life.

But a part of me was relieved too.

I was elated to see mighty Maya cut down to size.

Was happy to see that people could read the cause of Jaylalitha’s sudden sympathy for Tamil Ealam and not fooled.

Was elated to see Mr Karat getting a dose of public rejection.

To see Lalu and Paswan can no longer lord over people by citing caste camaraderie.

Nitish Kumar’s victory in Bihar gave me hope that people are voting for honest leaders in preference of same caste leaders.

Was happy to see Mamata getting rewarded finally. Mamata as one TV channel said is partly mad but she is financially honest a property which is not common in politicians. It told me people still values the old type honesty.

But I know the elation not going to erase every evil. Corruption will stay. Ministers will be on the look out to make moolah.

USA will sell their unused things and we will buy it.

Policy of minority appeasement ( this time Christian) will continue.

With service charge of welfare schemes, our bureaucrats make new deposits in Swiss banks. After politicians live society and society value people in terms of money and don’t question the source of it.

But in spite of all these drawbacks, at this moment there is some hope. For atleast five years black market of MP’s will remain closed.

And comparative stability will prevail. It seems at last Indian elector has finally understood the value of his voting power. If that happens, political future of India is not that ominous.
