Digital Media in next 10 years

Everyone is so much optimistic. But the problem is its just been optimism for a long time. In spite of known benefits of brand communications through digital medium, its not yet taken off the way it should have. The two questions that come to my mind are:

  • Why do India has to differ on every account in comparison with developed countries?
  • Why do Indian's take longer to adapt to a change on most of the things, while accept certain rare things as if it is no one's business?
However, till we get answers to these questions, many multi million dollars would have been spent on developing a digital media with optimism.

As for me, I can see 4 categories evolving right now in India in this segment - Internet, Mobile, Digital -OOH and IPTV.

The DTH segment has started a desperate effort to create media inventory on passive interaction basis but I doubt if it can ever replace other digital mediums, even with a presence of millions of subscribers already in place.

In this evolving stage of Digital Media in India, TV and Print are still catering to almost 85% of the need of the advertisers. Everyone is noticing the evolution, everyone is getting knowledgeable about it, the eco-system is being created around the digital medium and I feel it is about to be considered as an alternative media now in every brands media plan.

Its quite late right now and I hope to post my analysis and understanding on each of the categories of digital media individually to understand the next 10 years, let me call Digital Vision-2020!
