Resources for Studying Abroad
After deciding about the country from which you want to pursue your higher studies, you might be a little confused thinking about how to start and where to look for the source for preparing the required documents. There are various factors that will help you in getting admission in the universities abroad like your academic percentage, scores of GRE and TOEFL, Statement of Purpose (SOP), Recommendation Letters and your resume.
When you receive the application form, examine all the admission requirements and financial requirements. The application forms usually ask for personal information, your certified mark sheets or transcripts, your admission test scores, certificates of extra-curricular activities, letters of reference from your teachers, about your education plan, i.e. your course of study, carrier goals and research plan and why you chose this particular school etc.
Your recommendation letters and statement of purpose play major role in your admission. You should search the index of documents to be produced for an application for the universities abroad.
Documents to be submitted to the university/college you wish to apply to:
In some Colleges/Universities abroad, you may need to submit more than one application form. For example, you may have to submit a general application as well as a scholarship/assistantship application and a departmental application.
Academic Records/Transcripts:
For Undergraduate programs – You need to submit a secondary school report and report cards of your final exams. The report form should be filled up by a school official and should provide your ranking in the class. The report should talk about your accomplishments and provide a prediction of your chances for success in university-level studies. If it’s possible, you can ask your school to include a guide to the grading standards used in your educational system and your school. If your school ranks students by their level of academic achievement, make sure that it is included with the other details. You should also send the school/junior college leaving certificate as and when it is available.
For graduate level programs – You need to submit an official transcript from each college or university that they have attended after secondary school with complete details of the subjects or credits involved for each year. The transcript needs to be sealed in an envelope and signed and attested across the seal by the registrar. You should repeat this procedure for each and every college that you have attended. More than one copy of the transcript may be asked by some universities. If the transcripts are in a language other than English, it must be translated into English only by the issuing authority or university.
