Management in all business and human organization activity is simply the act of getting together to accomplish desired goals. In order to attain your goals, certain inputs are required. These inputs are based on the knowledge and skills that you possess.

When you look into the definition of science, it says that Science is a continuing effort to discover and increase human knowledge and understanding through disciplined research. Through science you can acquire knowledge which forms the basis of management principle. Hence science is directly proportional to management. If a manager is more focused on the science perspective, he would evaluate every situation and try to find reasons for a particular happening. This reasoning helps one gain the insight of the situation and hence resolving it becomes easier. Discovering new ways to amend a mistake will be designed by him and this experimentation shows the involvement of science.

Art is the skill that is attained by study or observation. Art enhances more on putting the knowledge to practical use. Unless the erudite is put to use, its aftermath cannot be detected. Hence to apprehend the use of the task in hand, art is essential. And these skills once acquired are useful for management purposes. A manager more inclined towards the art perspective, will use his expertise and his social and political skills in addressing problems rather than using examination or experimentation.

The definitions can perplex the reader but to put it into simple words, Management is both art and science. The terms are inter-related and both the principles are adopted by managers for swift functioning of their organization.
