Here is the list of the participants: Dublin, Ireland; London, The United Kingdom; Paris, France; Madrid, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Oslo, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Brussels, Belgium; Zurich, Switzerland; Rome, Italy; Stockholm, Sweden; Berlin, Germany; Prague, Czech Republic; Bratislava, Slovakia; Vienna, Austria; Budapest, Hungary; Ljubljana, Slovenia; Zagreb, Croatia; Belgrade, Serbia; Sofia, Bulgaria; Athens, Greece; Istanbul, Turkey; Bucharest, Romania; Kiev, Ukraine; Vilnius, Lithuania; Riga, Latvia; Tallinn, Estonia; Helsinki, Finland.
The competitors were observed through thirty indicators in every city and touching all the spheres of cities’ activities. For the research holders important is the fact that under any conditions our society, science, medicine and nature recourses have to be well-prepared and actually ready to meet challenges of the changing environment and the worsening ecological situation. They did their best to devote much attention to every criteria of the cities comparison. Spheres of human’s interaction with nature where the results of this interaction may be clearly observed are: potable water, sanitary waste facilities, climate change, vital green spaces and some others, and the research helped to concentrate on each of them both separately and as the part of the system. This is very useful for the business travel as the results of the competition give vivid and detailed picture of the particular city.
Water percentage in human body is 76, atmosphere of the Earth consists mostly of water, everything that breaths and lives is in fact water. So we can obviously say that water is one of the most important elements of nature. According to the research, one in four liters of water is constantly lost because of leakage( considering water consumed by cities' inhabitants.) This way water resources have to be well observed and actions aimed at the prevention of them should be taken.
At the end of the chart with the victorious score of 87, 31, in Green City Index Europe 2011 win Copenhagen, Denmark. To prevent more detailed description of the procedure of analysis, should be mentioned the fact that cities indicators were examined in eight categories: CO2, energy, buildings, transport, water, waste and land use, air quality, and environmental governance. Kiev, Ukraine lost with the score of 32, 33 simultaneously indicating the worst ecological and environmental situation in Europe.
Business travel always and integrally involves interaction with the environment. There is strict connection between the wealth of the city, as a representative of the country, and its Green City Index. The more prosperous the city is the higher is its Green City Index. The research in general was aimed at the promotion of the rivalry between cities, and through adoption of the new policies improving of the environmental situation.
