Technology Addiction: Impairing Learning Ability Of Students

A recently conducted study at Cranfield School of Management has concluded that - technology addiction is disrupting learning ability of the students.

In a shocking revelation, majority of the students participating in this study confirmed downloading information related to school-work from the internet, and then using the same without even reading the content properly.

With 63% of the students admitting addiction to internet and 53% to mobile phone, i am worried about the future of this tech-savvy next generation.

Also, the SMS language used on mobile phone is gradually over-shadowing the text book language - another finding of the study.

Few days ago, while attending the Parent Teacher's meet in my elder daughter's school, i noticed that majority of the parents were highly vocal in sharing the same concern with Class Teacher.

So, the trend is catching up fast with students from all over the world and, is becoming a serious matter of concern for the parents.

Strong desires of the youngsters; to remain in touch with each other, through Mobile/SMS and/or social networking sites like facebook/myspace etc is catalyzing this addiction, and early exposure to personal computer at home is adding fuel to it.

I am sure, most of the parents are taking this matter seriously, but implementing a result oriented corrective action - without affecting the mental equilibrium of the children - may call for an innovative approach.
