please stay..

The sun's rays penetrated the flowery curtain openings, the bright blond light began to slide from the tip of his fingers on to his arm . Its warmth woke him up.  He slowly raised his fingers toward the light, like he meant to touch it. His nails chipped and his fingers bruised , his hands was covered with white powder like that of a mason. He looked like he toiled the night, white powder all over him.

The pristine morning, was not disturbed from the honking of the cars, people’s footsteps, nor could the church bells be heard, except for the deafening silence that settled in the bedroom.

By the bed side Christine watched him as he arose to pack his things. He was leaving, she knew there is nothing she could say to stop him, but still she let go one last effort  and in a very faint voice, like a dying soul’s last words “please stay…..” She said. Her tears appeared to overrun the ones that dried. The thought of him leaving brought forth her hands toward him.

She could not believe what had happened and what is now happening. She could not remember all the memories they spend together, her agony was too much for her to think visibly but she was sure they were all beautiful moments.

He left the house which sheltered them for half a decade, gentle closing the door behind him, like he didn’t want to wake the sleeping.

He walked across the road, where the church would ring its bells on a Sunday morning. He headed to the cemetery. His lady love would often go there, and read what the dead’s loved ones written for them on the tomb stones. Christine always felt that a person's true worth would be felt when they are gone, which was evident on all the tombstones.

This time, his welled eyes were about to unleash streams of sparking tears, as he began reading what seemed like

unskilled carving on Christine’s tomb stone.

“You left and took my heart with you ... I wonder who is really dead now, please stay Christine. ”
