An Interview with Mohan Menon Director Chennai Business School
Q. Could you briefly tell us about the
institute?
Chennai Business School was conceived by a group of senior industry
professionals with years of experience in wide-ranging businesses.
In their years as captains of industry they had interacted with a large number
of management graduates who had little or no knowledge of how businesses
actually functioned on the ground. That’s when the idea of starting a B school
with intensive emphasis on real-world knowledge was born. The School focuses on
specific industry verticals, and students can choose the one that they are most
suited for. CBS is now into its fourth year . Widespread student and
industry acceptance has fuelled the School’s ambition and goals.
Within just three years, CBS has become an ‘A+’ rated school. Very few
schools if any ,have achieved this recognition in such a short span of time. In
addition, CBS has conducted senior management programs for Companies like
Sutherland.
Q. What are the courses offered?
Currently CBS offers one year PGPM in Retail, IT, HR, Banking &

Q. Do you have any international affiliations?
CBS had earlier signed a Memorandum of Intent with Westminster University
of the UK and is currently in a dialogue with them.
Q. What makes your institute stand out among other MBA schools?
It is our strong belief that the emphasis that CBS places on industry
orientation and industry interaction contributes tremendously to the distinct
place CBS holds in the management school arena. Challenging management games
and outbound programs open up new dimensions. Add to that, the various
specializations that we offer. CBS certainly walks the talk, as we
proclaim that the School offers ‘learning for the real world’.
Q. Does your institute offer scholarships or loans?
The School is actively considering a limited number of scholarships for
students who are top rankers in University exams.

CBS has acquired property off Chennai’s East Coast Road and plans to build a
residential School Campus for management studies. A number of new
initiatives are under consideration.

were placed in?
CBS has recorded 98 % placement in a year beset with gloom.
