CAT Scoring Scheme Creates Confusion
Prometric has come up with a scoring process which has
three steps, in Step one the raw score is "calculated" for
each of the section based on the number of the questions are answered
correctly, incorrectly or that omitted. There are +3 points for questions
answered correctly,–1 for questions answered incorrectly. Candidates are not
awarded inappropriate points for random guessing, the raw score is then "equated"
using a statistical process to balance errors such as invalid or ambiguous
questions or those with no straight answers. In the third step, the equated raw
score for each section is "scaled" by comparing it with scores
in other sections.

The Marking scheme of CAT created chaos and confusion among the students and this time even the teachers are confused. The statement in the IIM website “Candidates are not awarded inappropriate points for random guessing” is not every clear, it is being pointed out that IIM should have informed about this policy before the candidates appeared for CAT.
Students are in utter confusion that how can the machine figure out that someone has randomly guessed the answer. Nothing can be an appropriate method to say that a candidate has randomly guessed it or the student genuinely felt that it was the correct answer. Students are waiting for the IIMs to clarify the matter.
