O P Jindal Global University launches Jindal Global B-school
Professor C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University addressed a Press Conference on February 23, 2010, where he gave an overview about ‘Global Education’ and his vision of bringing it into India across a number of disciplines by establishing O.P. Jindal Global University. He was accompanied by Prof Peter Shuck, Simeon Baldwin Professor of Law, Yale Law School and Distinguished Visiting Professor, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS); along with Prof. Jonathan Burton-Macleod, Assistant Dean (Research), JGBS; Prof. Charles Maddox, Assistant Professor, JGLS; and Dr. Dwarika P. Uniyal, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Jindal Global Business School. During their stay in Mumbai they will be giving talks and interacting with senior students of various leading schools and colleges like Poddar International School, Hiranandani Foundation School, Jamnabai Narsee College, Poddar College, Sophia College, Mithibai College, amongst others.
O. P. Jindal Global University (JGU) is a non-profit global University established by the Haryana Private Universities (Second Amendment) Act, 2009 at Sonipat, Haryana (NCR of Delhi) through a philanthropic initiative of Naveen Jindal (Chancellor, JGU). The University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified JGU as a private university established by the state legislature of Haryana. JGU and its first school Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) are recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI). JGU has the following objectives, that is, fostering global programs, global curriculum, global research, global collaborations, and global interaction through a global faculty. This will enable India to become a provider of global education and become a leader in the transnational knowledge economy.
In the current academic year, JGU has established the Jindal Global Business School (JGBS). The vision of JGBS is to impart global business education to equip students, managers and professionals with necessary knowledge, acumen and skills to effectively tackle challenges faced by business and industry. JGBS will offer multi-disciplinary global business education to foster academic excellence, Industry partnerships and global collaborations. JGBS will conduct research, offer global program and host international conferences and workshops on issues that affect the corporate world. JGBS will commence its first academic session in August 2010 with a two year MBA program. This global initiative has received wide spread encouragement and support in India and abroad as reflected in the collaborations and partnerships that have already been established.
Professor C. Raj Kumar spearheaded the initiative to establish JGU and is its Vice Chancellor. Professor Kumar is a Honorary Consultant to the National Human Rights Commission of India and had a faculty appointment at City University of Hong Kong, where he taught for several years. He was a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, UK, from where he obtained his Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.); a Landon Gammon Fellow at Harvard Law School, USA, where he obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M.) and a James Souverine Gallo Memorial Scholar at Harvard University. He also obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Delhi, India; and a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) from Loyola College, India.
