PMI hosts a round table on Cloud computing

PMI India- hosted an all india event in Taj Residency,Bangalore on August 7th.  Some of the expert  members and invited guests had a round table discussion related to cloud computing and impact of cloud computing on project management practices. I was also invited to be part of the ITES panel on cloud computing.

The event was well organised and had members from various IT companies coming together to gather the experience on cloud computing.

The members felt that cloud computing will impact the next gen computing principles and practices to create a different mgmt practice .

Starting from the needs , requirements gathering to enabling an enterprise with cloud setup ( private or public ) has to get documented as a process and the impact will be faced even by ITIL processes.

I enjoyed the conference from a different perspective:

After thoughts : here are some of the key baby steps needed

1. What happens when the cloud goes down ? ( is the cloud providing high availability service that it never goes down  ?)

2. How to estimate the cost and schedules to migrate ERP applications for enterprise , while proposing the move to cloud?

3. Virtualisation is easy and sometimes within 20 minutes you can have the environment ready ? IS the backup of virtualisated system easy ?

4. While online is good for every global company ? what is the guarantee of services delivered ? How to define SLA's for the services rendered ?

5. Like in case of MPLS services , consumer of the service can only pay , but does not get clear estimates on bandwidth used or account where the services rendered can be checked ? How does the cloud for which you pay per use , one can verify the real usage and cost per click or cost per hour ?

6. What will be fate of internet 3.0 , when all devices start using the video as part of the business ?

7. Can you build FDA certified lifescience applications, while each developer is uploading the modules from different part of the world , without being physically present in the common place ?

8. How would anyone audit as per CMM or ISO processes, when the development teams will contribute to code , without physical team access ?

I will write more about cloud computing in my next articles or blogs ..
