Is the fall of Indian Rupee affecting tourism in India?

The months from April to August are the hottest in India, generally and in this season people in India escape to some foreign land or to some ‘cool hill stations in India’. Now the tour packages in India as well as Indian tourism sector are facing bad times due to the fall of rupee against the US Dollar.

The Dollar indicated a sharp raise and now Indian rupee fall at 55.03. The expenses of food, hotel reservations, and airfares also indicated a raise of 15 to 20 percentages along with the fall rupees. The flight reservations decreased by 25 percentages. Now people are thinking twice before planning a foreign trip. The decline of Air India and Kingfisher airlines are adding fuel to the fire by giving chance for other domestic companies to raise the fares. Expect the advance bookings, the hospitality industries in India like New Delhi hotels or Mumbai Hotels are not getting reservations as in the previous year.

The travel agents in India have confirmed that the fluctuations in the rupee are affecting the packages like Golden triangle tours as well as honey moon packages. Last year witnessed a sharp growth in number of travellers from India to foreign lands, but this year the number of travellers dramatically fell down. With the fall of rupees, tourism sector in India is also facing challenging times, as in other sectors.
