From my experience I will narrate a few incidences where we give in to corruption/ become party to it. I feel many may have been a party to similar such incidences at various times during their dealing with public authorities and bribe may have been paid our of coercion, pressure, out of free will to expedite our work due to paucity of time, out of helplessness etc.

1. At Subregistrar’s office – where never a sale purchase agreement is registered at transaction value. It is invariably registered at DLC rate only in order to avoid payment of stamp duty (tax to the government, which if paid would have been used for public welfare by the government). The official is well aware of this, but is paid the facilitation money to keep silent.
2. As a banker, I have come across companies, which come for loan from bank (around 99 out of 100), where the balance sheet /profit and loss account never states the real state of affairs of the company. It is invariably doctored with the connivance of the professions (CAs/CS/MBA/ICWA members etc), who for a fee ensure that it is picture perfect (Everybody is aware of Satyam case – and I understand this is just one of so many, which are yet to be exposed and may never be exposed). But just imagine one thing how can the promoter of the company flourish when the company it manages languishes with little or no profit.  The fact is that, the profit is understated by ehnacing the fake expenses and income understated. The amount that is siphoned off  the company enhances the treasure of the promoter. The income tax department officials who are well aware of these, sometimes at periodic intervals make raid to the premises of the promoter , get their own booty collected and leave the promoter again.  If we see in the entire process, who gained – it is the business man himself, the corrupt Income tax personnel and the professional who got their salary/fee.
3. In Delhi take the instance of Private Schools: Tell me a school, who does not take donation in the name of  some thing, some thing etc……………… And the level has so degenerated that they willnot give you the receipt also for the money received, lest tax may be required to be given. They do not even allow the mobile phone etc. into the admission room and the parents are frisked by their officials, as if you are not entering a school, but a highly guarded security complex/ military complex. This is due to the fear that in this technosavvy age, any parent may take a snap / videograph the atrocities they are inflicting / corruption they are breeding by extracting the undue money and the fact may come to light. A lot of hue and cry is heard every year at the time of nursery admission- as if you are taking admission in Engg/medical. Such a sorry state of affairs. Every body knows it, but no body bothers. The school was once treated as DEVALAYA for the tiny tots. Now should we expect that the organization which is deep under corruption will be able to give any value education to our children, may be it will turn out children who are proficient in maths, science etc., but it will never be able to generate a decent human being. I am really at doubt.
