Angreji

It is surprising to listen to vagaries of pros and cons being debated day after day on National TV channels. For a gullible like me, the panelist’s words are God’s words. Everybody and anybody seem so very right about issues confronting nation whether it is 2G or any other scam.  My perception about these burning issues therefore swings from one end to another as rapidly as I switch channels.

There is a distinct difference in perception of happenings as we move from Hindi to English channels and there is a subtlety of flavor in news being dished out depending on the editorial leaning. Nonetheless, one thing is made out clear about the purpose of news. First, news is for public consumption. Second, news is far from the truth and third, news is melodramas for the coveted TRP.

One would have conventionally blamed the language of English for all this mess inherent with national news as the language is known for unknown twist and turn. Going by the international commentary on international news, however, which is as much cooked for the status quo, vocabulary of language in India may be given a passé. What is hurting news analysis, therefore, is not the language per se but the twist in the content and its timing. This, we may call angreji. There are whole lots of angrej people confusing issues with the sole objective of blurring truth on purpose.

Consider for example the case of 2G scam. Even a simple mind who is accustomed to procedures of approvals in Government knows how they are processed and finalized. The well known administrative system does not allow possibility of high value proposal being allowed unless concurred at the right level of authorization. Where is the doubt? What are these whole lots of arguments of procedures and non-indulgence then? Is it not angreji?
