Rajathi’s name had figured during a conversation with corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, where she was alleged to be discussing a land deal. The land in Chennai, worth Rs 100 crore, belonged to Tata-owned Voltas and was alleged to have been transferred in the name of industrialist Sangmugnathan in 2009 for Rs 25 crore.

While the CBI questioned Radia, Rajathi’s chartered accountant Ratnam and Kanimozhi’s close aide S Saravanan, along with Sangmugnathan last week, according to sources, it didn’t find any evidence to establish the alleged transfer of land.

Incidentally, while the land was jointly owned by 17 people till 2008, between April and August 2008, all of them gave the power of attorney to Saravanan. In April 2009, the plot was allegedly transferred to an industry owned by Sangmugnathan, who was said to be close to the DMK family.

Voltas officials had claimed that they had neither bought nor sold the land, and had been occupying it on lease continuously since 1975. The matter of renewal of the lease by the landlords is pending in the Madras High Court.

Earlier, the second wife of former CM Karunanidhi, Dayalu Ammal, who owns 60 per cent stake in Kalaignar TV, had been cleared by the CBI over the transfer of Swan Telecom money to Kalaignar TV.

“There is not much evidence against Rajathi on the transfer of the land and its connection with the 2G scam. From the scrutiny of the records, it has also been established that the land is still being used by Voltas,” said a CBI official. A report would be submitted before the Supreme Court by May 31.

The CBI has no plans either to question Rajathi on the matter, and will wait for the directions of the Supreme Court in this regard.
