Chinese Food: a rare mix of exotic and local flavor

Chinese food in India is the most popular fast street food that is found just about everywhere.  Freshly made with lots of vegetables, the ubiquitous Chow Mein and the Sweet Corn soup can be had cheap and would fill the tummy without feeling a pinch to the pocket! The condiments can be adjusted and Indians like me can have all the chillies in the world if I like it that way.

Chinese food in India is also popular in the higher class of society. Chinese Food Restaurants proliferate in the cities and towns and seem to be doing well too! The authenticity of the tastes and the ingredients used is really questionable though! Catering to the local tastes and preferences the Chinese food restaurants invent new recipes and ingredients that could be completely unknown in China.  The starred hotels though vouch for their menu items as they claim that not only original recipes but also original Chinese Chefs. These exclusive Chinese food restaurants are also very popular albeit too expensive. I could gauge the popularity of this cuisine when I found that each and every five-star hotel in India had Chinese Food Restaurants along with their Indian counterpart!

Since China is a very huge country with many geographically distinct regions where because of different  climate, soil, rainfall etc crops harvested and food habits of the people are also very different. Chinese food is similar to food in India, diverse and abundant in variety. Chinese food in India is however not influenced by the variety that the Chinese eat but by the preferences of the local taste.
