Human Resource Development - Hinderance in its Path

What are the obstacles in the Path of Human Resource Development ?

As it has been told earlier that development is natural but the path is not easy. If we leave an object undisturbed we are certain to find layer of dust deposited on it. Dirtiness is natural but one will have to labour for cleaning. Similarly for light something is required but darkness comes in natural way. In order to get something or to acieve one's goal labour is required.

Humans are creatures of habbit with an insatiable desire to get familiarity with others action. They want a short cut for achieving their aim. They try to surpass all their rivals by taking different means - may be unfair. A man is only a man neither a demon nor a GOD.

It is being preached from centuries - We all are under the influence " MAYA" (illusion). We get attracted on physical appearances at the first sight. Smartness, dynamism, good looking etc. snatch our attention inadvertenly and we become slave (under influence) of such things without any purpose. If we go through orthodox philosophy followings traits have much affect on the growth/development of an individual

काम (Sex)

क्रोध (Anger)

मद (Proudness)

लोभ (Greed)

मोह (Affection)

In this context following sixteen traits are also worthwhile to consider (Refer Organisational behaviour by P Robbins)

1. Reserved Outgoing

2. Less intelligent More Intelligent

3. Affected by feelings Emotionally stable

4. Submissive Dominant

5. Serious Happy-go-lucky

6. Expedient Concientious

7. Timid Venturesome

8. Tough minded Sensitive

9. Trusting suspicious

10. Practical Imaginative

11. Forthright shrewd

12. Self assured Apprehensive

13. Conservative Experimenting

14. Group dependent Self sufficient

15. Uncontrolled Controlled

16. Relaxed Tense

Allthe above traits ignore environment, situational context, interchangeability, dynamism etc. But development of a human kind is very much dependant of these qualities.

If we consider development of manpower in an organisation, it is much affected by organisational cultural charactoristics* -

  1. A bias for action
  2. Closeness to the customer
  3. Autonomy and enterpreneurship
  4. Productivity through people
  5. Hands on value driven
  6. Stich to knitting
  7. Simple form lean staff
  8. Simultaneous loose-tight properties

(*Tom Peter and Robert Watezman's In Search of excellance)

As shown above there are various putting hinderance in the path of development of human resources. In short following factors are very important :

  1. Biographical Properties (age,sex,tenure etc)
  2. Human behaviour (individual and group)
  3. Physical ability and personality
  4. Individual decision making
  5. Work Stress
  6. Inclination towards learning
  7. Situation
  8. Attitude
  9. Work shedule
  10. Social Impact
  11. Cultural System
  12. Distortion
  13. Communication
  14. Power and Politics
  15. Conflict and inter group relation
  16. Foundation of Organisational Structure.
