Jamea-Tus-Salehat: An Introduction

Assistant Professor (Business Administration)
Let me first introduce to you the premier School of Islamic Thought in my hometown Rampur: Jamea Tus Salehat. Jamea was founded in mid of 20th century by Moulana Abdul Hai Sahab Marhoom. It was initially named as 'Bacchiyon ka Madarsa' and was aimed at providing Islamic education to Muslim girls. The idealistic support was provided by Jamiat-e-Islamia-Hind.

Without the mention of following personalities, any discussion of Jamea would be meaning-less. Moulana Tawasul Sahab, the second nazim of Jamea after Moulana Abdul Hai Sahab; Moulana Uzair Sahab, teacher of Quran and Hadith; Ms Asif Jahan Begum, sister in nursing home of Jamea; Moulana Abdul Khaliq Sahab, Head Arabic Department; and Mrs Rafia Shamsi Sahiba, Ex-Principal of Jamea (She served as Principal of Jamea for more than 35 years).

The model of education is unique in case of Jamea. It's based on Taleem and Tarbiyat as followed in Aligarh Muslim University. Upto 8th standard modern education is provided, which includes Maths, English, Science, Social Science, Hindi, Urdu, etc. After 8th, a four year Alimiyat courses is taught, which is followed by a two year Fazilat course. These courses are recognized by premier institutes of India like Aligarh Muslim University, Jamie Millia Islamia, Jamia Hamdard, etc.

At present more than 2500 girl students are enrolled in Jamea, out of which nearly 50% resides in hostel.
