3D Technology: How Much Do You Know

Software engineer
Since the release of 3D Avatar, 3D movies are becoming more and more popular in the movie market. And the recently 3D version Titanic again sets off the trend of 3D technology. Everyone knows that 3D movies can bring the very enjoyable experience during watching movies. But how much do you know 3D technology? So here is the common sense of 3D technology.
The principle of 3D technology
Because human’s eyes have 1.6-2.3inch IPD, what each eye sees is difference from the other eye. Two different viewpoints of image transmiss to the brain to form the image parallax, thus forming the image depth of field. Stereographic projection is based on the same principle: two different images projected onto the screen, you must ensure that the left eye can only see the left image, right eye can only see the right image.
Projection Display System Category
* Active Display System
* Passive display system - a single projector
* Passive display system - projector
Active stereo system components
* Active stereo glasses - two alternately switching the LCD lens
* Infrared transmitter sync signal is required in the glasses when working normal hours of work need the projector's output refresh frequency range 96-144Hz (left and right eye alternately display)
* Requiring the signal source for high-resolution high refresh rate
* Standard screen

Passive three-dimensional stand-alone mode
* Passive stereo glasses - left and right spectacle lenses with different polarization directions
* A single projector mode, requiring the projector is equipped with a Z-screen options, high refresh rate refresh rate range is 96-144Hz, left and right images alternately output
* Requiring the signal source for high-resolution high refresh rate
* Require the use of polarized screen
Dual passive three-dimensional
* Passive stereo glasses - left and right spectacle lenses with different polarization directions
The polarization direction of the * two projector consistent with the corresponding lens of the stereoscopic glasses
* Two projector corresponding to the left and right eye images
* Require the use of polarized screen

3D current application
Virtual reality in the field of immersive video display solutions:
* Oil and gas - used to display three-dimensional seismic data, complex hydraulic models, drilling, construction and geographic fault structure
* Car manufacture - Displays virtual car prototype and the engine and manufacturing process, to promote the design of new models to shorten the cycle of new models to market
* Research - analysis of drugs and medical models, and research and education, and so on.
3D movie
There should be three 3D glasses for each movie:
* One is used
* One is disinfected
* One is prepared for the next audience
* Other options: low-cost disposable paper glasses
Three techniques advantages and disadvantages
An active stereo technology advantage: the original projector, screen, and the server, without cost to increase. Disadvantages: active stereo glasses are very expensive, and the cost of the battery consumption
Stand-alone way passive stereo technology advantages: use the lower the price of ordinary passive stereo glasses. Disadvantage: required to adopt a special polarized screen, higher prices.
Dual-mode passive stereo technology advantages: use the lower the price of ordinary passive stereo glasses. Disadvantages: requires the use of special polarized screen, need to invest in the two projectors.
Although 3D movies are so impressive but you should know that not all people are suitable for watching 3D movies. Some experts suggest that movies in 3D version can be harmful for our eyes, especially for the children. So if you don’t like to watch 3D movies, you can convert 3D to 2D video. Don’t know how to handle it?
