When will we see a change in attitudes
But even now the attitude and approach to a woman has not changed in India. The"nirbhaya"rape is one such incident which shook the whole country. Many incidents after that including molesting and attempting to rape women and female kids, not even 3 yrs in workplace, schools,at home has become a daily affair. The documentary taken by a British woman to analyse and research a rapist's psychology, to telecast it in channels, amounts to a high level of disgrace on the modesty of women in India and around the world.Crueltyin its worst form has to be portrayed in the most professional way?
The problem starts with the culture and system we follow for ages, mellowing in our homes, which we claim as the most respectful, which has suddenly changed into a melancholic drama, making the status of women as mere objects of exploitation and temporary pleasure for men.Women face this in workplace, home and on the streets where even a boy child teases a woman his mother's age who walks beside him. How can we revive the minds of these degenerating crowd and the current and upcoming generation to have a positive feeling and approach towards women?
I feel it should start from the family environment itself.Even now in our families, inspite of religion or caste, women are meant to serve men, feed kids, give birth and be a beast of burden irrespective of her age. How many women in our country sweep roads for a living? How many women wash clothes and wipe floors even now in cities where men do not even think of doing this? The general attitude is women are meant to serve the family and specially men even if they spit on the road or at home, leave their used clothes for washing, leave toilets unclean,or pee on the streets., women are meant to wash it off.Go to any other westerrn nation, you hardly see a woman cleaning roads. Is this the high value culture we talk about? In temples we worship the goddess with respect. But back home you really dislike the woman, your wife, who is a major part of your daily life. Here we do not need an argument on who is physically fit.Whatever work a woman can fit into men can also fit into. Why don't we think in such a perspective?
In most of the Indian families, even now growing children especially boys watch their fathers dictating terms than responding to women or considering them as a respectful member of the family. The final word is after all a man's only even if he is not practical or at fault. A WOMAN as a wife or mother or daughter, toiling day and night, even if she is educated or working remains as an individual of less value in decision making and less understood of her abilities Current rates of divorce simply shows that. Also movies and internet where abusive picures and language used against women is making the young minds develop a feeling that women are inferior human beings and they are merely meant for a man's follies and exploitation & abuses.95% of men make fun of a woman's body as a toy forgetting the fact that they grew up as a foetus in a woman's womb and she gave birth to them from her genital organ which is discussed as a matter of their dirty follies and fantasies..Shame on them!
There should be awareness programs in schools and colleges to teach young boys how to approach and develop good feelings towards women. An ideal man is not the one who drinks and beats up the wife, or portray women as commodities for sex,or a criminal who puts his hands on any woman, exploit women for money, or harass women for money or sex. Also if women resort to such exploitation with just an excuse that it is all for a living, our womenfolk are going to face tough times ahead. No technology growth can change these attitude towards women, unless women themselves make sure that they are not being used. Women must consider themselves as worthy as pure gold.
