9 MBA applicants secure 100% in CAT 2011
CAT scores are accepted by the 13 IIMs, the country's premier institutes for management studies, and numerous others, including the management studies departments in the National Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institutes of Technology. The IITs made the decision to accept CAT scores instead of conducting a separate Joint Management Entrance Test this year. Academic affairs secretary at IIT Madras Prashanth said that this year many of the students in the institute had tenable top scores in the test, including Prabhu Dev and Saipramod Inguva who scored 99.99 %s.
Convenor of CAT 2011 professor Janakiraman Moorthy of IIM Calcutta said that the IIMs will start calling candidates for the next stage of the admission process from today. "Some of the older IIMs may put out the list from evening. Within a week all the IIMs would have sent out mails to prospective candidates," he said.
This year many of the new IIMs, including those in Tiruchirapalli, Udaipur and Raipur, have increased their intake from 70 to 120. This will improve the chances of many candidates to get into the prestigious IIMs.
Several top scorers said that taking mock tests offered by coaching institutes helped them secure high percentiles in the exam. Asked about this trend, professor Moorthy said, "We keep evolving and innovating, but the industry also catches up."
CAT 2012 will be manner during October to November in an online format and students will have the choice to pick up their centers and date. From this year onwards management schools of the elite IIT's have also decided that admission to their post graduate management programs will be done through cat 2012.
