DAY 529 Amitabh Bachchan Blog

A two hour drive out of Mumbai at 6 in the morning and ….. PARADISE !! Amby Valley, an entire city set up by the Sahara Group and the brain child of its founder, dear friend Saharashri Subrato Roy, neat and clean, peaceful and quiet by the shadows of the hills of Lonavala. The clouds kissing the trees, acres and acres of green vegetation and plants and flowers and not a leaf out of place. Pretty elegant cottages and facilities hidden among the foliage, lakes, its own little private airfield, flood lit night golf and million other things to do over almost 5000 acres.

This was a wild deserted forest area when it was discovered by Saharashri and we have been coming here ever since its inception and the plans to develop it. Such a pleasure to see it brimming with all that was conceived and designed.

The inaugural of BiggBoss takes place tomorrow at Amby Valley on an elaborate set, where we have been rehearsing and doing cut away shots. That over we have driven down to Lonavala, to the actual house where the contestants will be locked up. The set up is massive. Over 350 people working round the clock in running this show. Intricate control rooms, electronics, cameras, microphones … it is quite something. And they have built an entire chalet for me when I come in to work over the week ends - bedrooms, makeup rooms, hall, dining area, kitchen, verandahs, huge courtyard … a Spanish vila in design with the personal touches of family photographs all over the house. I could move in here ! This is some operation !!

Quite quite overwhelming !! And the quivers have increased 100 fold and the pessimism a thousand. Its that lurking deep hollow tunnel within that keeps tugging at your intestines and stomach, drying it empty. Beethoven’s Symphony’s have that. The sweet light bright instruments of the pipe and flute and violin, gently moving about with rapid enthusiasm, when suddenly it is overtaken by the heavy drums and chords of angry resistance. Almost like life being condemned by the presence of ominous fate. Life lives and exists within its parameters. It breathes hope and accomplishment through hard work and talent, when fate steps in and robs it of all expected glory. And you wonder whether it would not have been better to have left it to fate than to have labored with honesty. But fate on its own would never work. Not for the good, nor for the evil. The compulsion shall always be the need to excel, to achieve with the satisfaction of hard work and then leave the rest to fate. Perhaps fate smiles greatly more on those that labor, that persist. Maybe that is what we should always aim for and remain immune towards the result. It is when we seek result that expectation rises. Each expectation then has its own color and purpose. A result is an essential, but for whom and why.

I shall spend the night here. The day has just ended most exhaustedly, and there is a call for an early morning. There was thunder and rain a short while ago and the temperatures went further down. But what came down also were the clouds as they drifted by along the upper regions of the surrounding hills and at times just hung motionless in mid air.

Tomorrow another venture, another experiment another phase. Merit shall be assessed and addressed. Pro and anti sentiments shall be expressed. The next few months shall test our caliber or destroy our worth. We may succeed or we may fail. Nobody except fate knows the result. Which is why metaphorically fate could be succeeding all the time, without moving an inch !!

My love and affection
