DAY 816 Amitabh Bachchan Blog

It is the time of night when the FmXt beckons . It is the time of night I look forward to. It is the time of night ..

Twitter may be instant and rapid and immediate and greatly universal and internal. But this space has the serene gentleness of a rain drenched flower, the peace and harmony of civilized neutrality, the reaching out capability of the morning sun - the calmness of its setting. It has the subtle touch of that soft wave that smoothes out as it touches the sand banks of a long and lonely beach. It has the vivacity and passion of youth ; it has the wisdom of age. It has incongruity at times and distinctness. It allows for thought to exist, mature and develop. It has the reason of care and love. It has the objectivity and demand to be expressed and heard. It has solitude in a crowded market and the heart beat of millions.

It has you.

Communication has become a second profession. An instrument of an instrument. It exists every nano second of our lives now and continues to add reinvent discover fresh and novel ideas for its use. What a fascinating world we live in. Moving from one end of living to another has become a physical exercise put to and managed by another. But what used to be our own involvement in the process of travel or a shift or a trip, has now incorporated an aspect that never was with us - the mode of communication.

You sit in a conference and encounter an information that needs verification. It is in the palm of your hand that does it. You travel distances but with the comfort that you will never be too far from a connect or a connect to information. Look at the reassurance we possess today. Look at how so many of our insecurities, issues and immediate decisions have been converted into the simplicity of a gadget that is operational by just thumbing a few letters.

I drove down this evening towards South Mumbai, which I now address as SoMu, ( to be in line with the modern way of thinking in bringing every aspect of life to an abbreviation ) and the one and a half hour journey has passed by as though it never happened. The mobile hand set has kept me occupied, apart from the odd query from the wife sitting beside me, in overcoming the anxiety of traffic and piled up vehicles. It has also made me oblivious to the many changes that I see as I drive through my own city. I have not been to this part of the world in a while and the infrastructural changes that have taken place suddenly seem as though I was in another place, not of my knowing.

Its Bastille Day today the French National Day and the reception to celebrate it, has been organized by the French Consulate at the Taj - the Hotel which remains vivid in our memory of the 26/11 terror attack. It is back to being functional and the atmosphere and energy that always symbolized this great landmark, is back. Back too is the restrictions to movement through intricate security checks, a mandatory necessity in almost all vulnerable facilities. It hinders the welcome look of a public area, but it has become a part of our feature of life. Better be prepared than repaired.

Th evening is a crowded affair. They make guest of honor. There is protocol and formality. There is the National Anthem of both countries. There are speeches. Speeches of desires to fructify, come together, hold hands, move forward. There is tons of champagne and glitterati. There is society.

In my speech I mention the greetings expressed by those following me on twitter for the French and I deviate from my words of building national and international friendship, to mentioning the gestures from the world of tweet - and there is huge applause. There is applause for multicultural existence and there is applause on the mention of today July 14th and the victory of the Kargil War fought hard and bravely in 1999 by our forces in the North. The sacrifices made by our jawans to protect the nation, to protect us and our future generations.

Tomorrow I start rehearsals for KBC .. just getting the hang of things to come, the innovations and the formats. There is still time for its inception, but better to do it now and get acclimatized, than make mistakes later on ..

In remembrance of Bastille Day, the national Day of France 14th July

In remembrance of the victory day for the Kargil War, fought hard and against all odds by our brave jawans up in the Himalayas against those that wanted to occupy our territory, on the 14th July 1999

Love and much more to all ..
