DAY 822 Amitabh Bachchan Blog

” Four hostile newspapers need to be feared more than a thousand bayonets “ This from a respected member of our extended family, and nothing could be truer. Hostility once established with the press would be time to say a final adieu to public relations. Look for a decent burial ground, pay your debts and bid farewell, it is time for doom ! Having spent a most exhilarating couple of hours with media today has been educative and in many ways inspiring. Educative because of the wealth of knowledge that one acquires. Inspiring because its never to late to learn. Acquisition of the varied and complicated issues that arise in cases of media vs celebrity, is now world renowned. But points of view from either side opens up an entire universe - a universe unknown to most that access it from without. Each domain shall and will always have a justifiable reason and argument, but I believe that the debate shall always be restricted within. Within the corridors of the media and within the corridors of the celebrity. For, apart from the momentary pleasure or its displeasure that it brings to those that subject themselves to it, its life in the longer or larger perspective is indeed short lived. Repeated negativity on any subject by the ‘estate’ would not make good commerce - it would stale the product, not the most welcome aspect for any reader. Conversely, excessive praise in positivity would bring on similar delusions. The most judicious balance then, between the two modes would perhaps be the most welcome. Finding it and executing it to finality would be the ideal proposition. Many are able to accomplish it, most do not. And thus hangs the balance - neither here nor there ! And thus too the perennial problems that arise between these factors. Both survive in their individual capacity, but perhaps not with the kind of alacrity that each would require in their respective professions. What then could be a possible cure. Media suggests that lack of communication gives rise to an attitude, a predetermined supposition, which if not effectively understood would invariably give rise an interpretation which could be one sided. But would this not be interpreted as being on standby constantly by one party, waiting for the other to connect. Not being in such condition could be adverse to the situation and then perhaps misinterpretation. I could be at work and not in suitable condition to respond. Would this be understood by stringer that needs to ‘put to bed’ their issue before stipulated time ? I would dare to risk a guess and say a firm no. Its a matter of ones profession, their job, career, their very existence. For the other party the rules are the same. And that is how dead locked the relation becomes. There have at times and even in today’s discussions been the advice that a mediator be appointed, one that would safely and correctly interpret and represent its client. One that could be the voice of the boss, in manner and speech. That could ease and perhaps diminish the impact of an impending incident or reportage. One that would remain in contact with the people that matter, on matters that matter. To protect as it were the standing of their employer. To fill in, in absence and to protect. Them, him, her, anyone !! A pleasant evening. Constructive. The gift of a view perhaps unseen by both. Now for its execution. To adapt, envelope, communicate and be approachable. For the ‘estate’ it does signify a temperate impression. And that is how it should be. “Good and decent people must be protected and persuaded by gentle means, but the rabble must be led by terror” !! And so it shall be. They and we are decent people. Gentle persuasion works well with us. As it would for them too. Rabble does not have sufficient space to enter into, it is an unwanted motley crowd full of ordinary people inferior and uncouth. Each intent requires that personal touch. We are our own best representatives. Why leave it to others. It has been an evening on even keel. There really is no other, even if we had wished so. Good night, god bless .. Amitabh Bachchan http://www.blog.thecompleteactor.com/ … and this is where the great MohanLal has written a piece on me in his blog. Such accolades are not my due and I am humbled by this his kind gesture !!
