DAY 908 Amitabh Bachchan Blog

Another day passes by. Another realization. How common and small I am, and how large and uncommon the others. The people we meet, the people that live within our land and those that exist without any demand or desire, they are the true heart of the land.

The heart of this land resides in the villages of India. Our true ethos, culture and ethics comes from there. There is not a moment of doubt in my mind that this is what those that saw realized and understood our nation, bore the same opinion. Day in and day out as I battle the wits of these wonderfully well equipped contestants I begin to accept and concede that their superiority is a class above mine, by many stories.

The work as I said earlier on TV sets and production, is a task I would not recommend to anyone. Its sheer magnitude, its expanse, its diligent working and its complex reach can and does obliterate almost any other attempt, at attracting eye balls. It is also a wheel in continuous motion - an ogre that devours everything that presents itself in front of it, only to ask for more. One can get physically exhausted, yes obviously so, but also creatively loose all position standing and poise. And I wonder at those that commit themselves to this profession, how on earth they can remain sane and balanced in life.

Those that work on KBC are just a young bunch of ladies and very few men, which is nice. But ladies at such a young age to be devotedly involved in this almost sunrise profession is quite quite remarkable. Having worked for some constructive years in TV, in its formation and running for a few years, one can understand the issues that come up to most TV channels. And to see the scope of this line develop from small shanty rooms to large and almost uncontrollable proportioned offices studios and facilities, is a remarkable example of development, progress and the fact that the country moves in the right direction. Tonight as we watch the closing of the CommonWealth Games, we cannot but admire the immense thrust forward that this nation has taken. To come out victorious in the 2nd position among all the CommonWealth Countries, is no mean achievement. And I would wish to congratulate all those, that diligently worked in getting this impression on our athletes thrust forward, that India has come into its own. That seeing the joy of victory and achievement among our own is the most wondrous site ever.

Well done India !! may you move forward with similar grit and strength, to greater heights, higher achievements and unmistakable presence. Sport has become our instigator for greater value and presence. It has given us a distinct  and respectable identity, one that had not been so forthcoming ever.

The messages have been pouring in and the effort to get responsive over them still continues at every possible break. I am getting there, but at a pace which does not make me feel comfortable. I shall accomplish, I shall deliver, but perhaps in time and for that I render my apologies.

KBC has been all consuming. When you start off in the morning you wonder whether there could be a sudden cancellation, a change in schedule which would enable us to take that extra hour of sleep. Or slip out of bed with the ease of one that does not desire work. But walking on to the set amidst the roar and cheering of the audience is such an uplifting experience, you actually start missing it.

Now as I sit back at the end of the day, I wonder when it is that I shall be able to get back to the lights of the set, sit on that awkward chair and announce with great heralding -

“Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome, good evening namaskar, satsriakaal, aadab .. main Amitabh Bachchan hun aur aap sab ke liye laya hoon, tez, teekha, tabadh thod … Kaun Banega Crorepati !!!”

Yes strangely, you actually wish to be back among the audience and to relish their affection and love and to sit and talk and banter and interact.

Strange but true …

My love as ever ~

Amitabh Bachchan
