The more risky countries for natural disasters
The United Nations concluded that Bangladesh, China, Colombia, India and Indonesia are the most risky countries of the world for natural disasters, according with observations made in the last 30 years.
The report has been presented during the opening of the Global Platform Disaster Risk Reduction on 14th June 2009 and that has the participation of more than 1,800 persons from the five continents.
The safer countries are Bahrain, Denmark, Estonia and Letonia. To provide the global list of disasters, UN used observations of the last 30 years to make a future projection. According with the report. Asia has the highest risk of natural disasters.
Cyclones, earthquakes, flooding and landslide are the most common global disasters affecting the countries according to the UN report under the coordination of scholar Pascal Peluzzi.
The climate change, by its part, is risen the risk of disasters by flooding, being Greenland the country with the biggest vulnerability. Colombia has a big risk of earthquakes, quoted Peluzzi, while he concluded that India, Bangladesh and Japan, with a great risk, are the country that more efforts have done to reduce the impact of such natural phenomena.
However, the growing in population create also more vulnerability, said Peluzzi to EFE, especially with the construction of cities along the sea.
