Airhostess kills self for smoking
A 20-year-old Jet Airwaysairhostess, Anupama Acharya, allegedly leapt to death early Wednesday after anargument with her boyfriend, a pilot with the same airline who tried to stopher from smoking.
The tragedy occurred around 3am, when Anupama jumped from the fifth floor ofJheel Darshan Apartments, Powai, where Samar lived with five other roommates.The girl fell down the stairway duct and died of multiple injuries.
Anupama was depressed about facing her seniors at the office as she had missedher Mumbai-Goa flight on Tuesday. He told police that she had called him on hisday off to say she had missed the flight and wanted to meet him.
Anupama wanted to have a few drinks andthey called up his roommate and asked him to arrange for some. At 11pm, the tworeached Samar's 6th floor shared apartment. According to Samar, Anupama wasfairly drunk around 1 am and wanted to return to Andheri. He said that shepulled out a cigarette and tried to light it but he threw it away. She thenpulled out another and he threw away that too. Anupama then got annoyed,especially after Yajurvedi's roommate also told her not to smoke.
Samar followed Anupama when she left the flat while his other five roommateswere sleeping inside. The two reached the fourth floor of the building wherethey sat and argued from 1.30 to 3 am.
``During the argument, Anupama said she was going to end her life. A frightenedSamar immediately began SMSing her father in Hubli to him about thesituation,'' Samar also made a phone call to the girl's father, B S Prasad. Herfather sent six SMSes and made one phone call to calm her down.
``Five minutes after talking with her father, Anupama rushed upstairs andjumped from the fifth floor. She fell through the duct of the staircase. Samarimmediately called his roommate and informed him. The roommate called thepolice.''
