Cricket - joy pride religion

Investment analyst

Cricket is not just a sport but a religion in the sub continent, says everyone from the time I can remember. It is the one thing that cuts above everything different, varied, diverse and distant. It unites people in more ways than one; it stirs emotions of belonging, identity, pride and joy. Cricket and cricketers are a part of our lives, our culture our passion. This is a sport that commands our respect, our love and our faith. This cannot be debated, challenged or countered from any quarters of society.

The recent attacks on the Sri Lankan cricketers have not just left us outraged, shocked or frustrated. This incident has left us lost, lost with no sense of where to go, what to do and what to expect. Can we ever recover from this, our most sacred and loved thing has been attacked, can we find our way back, will be ever find a way back?

This only reminds me of a dialogue from Christopher Nolan’s modern day masterpiece ‘Dark Knight’ when the butler tells Bruce Wayne (a.k.a Batman), that “some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. Some just want to watch the world burn.”
