Culture - The Foundation of a Nation
Culture – The Foundation of a Nation
Culture has always been the foundation of a Nation’s lifestyle. For ages the cultural beliefs of our fore fathers played a major role in guiding their way of living. No wonder many of them had a long life span in comparison to the current generation. Culture has always been celebrated as a difference because of the beauty it presents to the world. Trust me when I say culture defines the beauty of the people in a nation. However it is very absurd to day to say that our cultures are on the verge of extinction in the name of modernity and development.
In simple terms culture was an ancient belief of the great fathers who lived before our generation. It was a form conserving the morals of the society in which they lead. I believe I would be right to say that the moral degeneration that is traversing our world today is primarily due to the erosion of our cultures.
A case in point is today most of the Indian youth prefer the US Pizza to the Indian Dhossa. Back home we enjoy putting on the jeans instead of the “African Wardrobe.” Well…its all in the name of modernization. Other cultural beliefs wouldn’t be bad but we are copying up everything that we see because we think it is good. Our generation has not taken caution to leave behind what is not productive in the development of an individual.
Most of our nations are suffering immensely because we have neglected the importance of culture. The fortresses of the Nation have been demolished because we are copying all the stuff we see in the world. I was surprised one time when I told my kid sister to put on a dress and she told me, “Come on bro, that is out dated.” I was left speechless as I never expected that from her at such a tender age.
Modernity has led us to a state of under looking the importance of our beautiful cultures. However it is never too late to go back to our roots. I believe that even to day we can promote the cultural beliefs that previously built the mighty nations that we are proud about. This is possible through untiring staging up of cultural shows, traditional folk dances, folk songs, cultural exhibitions among others. I feel proud sitting back home after a long day to listen to a Hindi song instead of the famous rock music.
I appreciate the efforts of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in their initiative of celebrating the beauty of culture. If we took up examples of such organizations and made a point to practice what they do stage or show, this will lead to the revival of culture. Our nations are decaying morally due to the neglecting of culture and the values that exist there-in.
To those who have maintained their cultures keep it up. To the individuals who are still thinking culture is outdated it is time you thought twice how beautiful this world would be if we kept the good values in our cultures. You will make a good difference in the livelihood of the world.
