10 things to do with plastic waste
Glitter in a bottle: Take a small empty plastic
bottle, fill it half with oil and half water, add food coloring and glitter and
voila! A great toy for babies to play with. Why babies? Even the older ones!
Yarn holder: Cut off the base of an empty
plastic bottle and clean it out. Stuff in your yarn and pull strand through the
mouth of the bottle. Tape the base back onto the bottle. With winter here and
your aunty knitting a sweater for you, this easy to make yarn holder will keep
yarn from getting tangled while knitting or crocheting.
Holiday plant waterer: Remove the cap and cut off the
bottom of the bottle. Invert the bottle and fix the mouth into the soil in the
pot. Fill this inverted bottle with water and allow your plants to be gradually
watered when you are away for a few day.
Free funnel: Cut off the base of a plastic
bottle, invert and use as a funnel in the kitchen or garage.
Toilet tank trick: Fill a bottle or two with water
and drop it into your toilet flush tank. You'll displace enough water to save a
half gallon to a gallon with every flush. Most toilets flush just fine with a
little less water.
Spray Pumps: Some bottles can be fitted with
a spray pumps and be used for small projects.
Flower vase: Decorate an empty plastic bottle
with paint, glitter and beads to make a funky flower holder for your bathroom
or kitchen!
Leak proofing: Slip a small plastic bag under
the lids of jars for a leak-proof seal. Especially good for items like pickle
and chutney.
Substitute gloves: Wear bags as gloves to keep your
hands clean when touching raw meat. You can even wear plastic bags as 'gloves'
while applying colour or henna to hair.
Pretty decorations: With Christmas just around the
corner, take a clear bottle and draw various decorative shapes like butterfly,
star, hearts etc. Cut out, paint and decorate with glitter. Hang up on your
Christmas tree for an eco-friendly celebration.
