Middle Age: A Celebration Or Crisis?
Today it felt more like inauguration of memorial for the dead.I was being led to believe in Human Mortality.
I remember a poem taught to me 36 years ago which goes:
TODAY IS MY B'DAY,
I AM ONLY FOUR ,
MY FRIEND THE POSTMAN ,
IS AT THE DOOR.
In the present context, the poem goes,
TODAY IS MY B'DAY,
I AM ONLY FORTY,
MY FRIEND ,
IS AT THE DOOR,
OH WHAT HAS HE GOT ,
LET ME HAVE A LOOK,
A RAPIDLY WRINKLING FACE,
AND A RECEDING HAIRLINE LOOK,
CREAKY JOINTS AND BAGGY EYES,
AND A BODY BULGE LIKE A FAT BOOK.
On the eve of my fortieth B'day I was advised to enjoy the moment as I was about to cross the chasm of youth.
But truly what does being 40 feel like?A liberation that 20's could not dream of.Hope that 30's could not have thought of.
Yes ,40's are new 20's.Hope for the future, but also coming to terms with the past.
Like as they say
'Age is a matter of mind.If you don't mind ,it does not matter.'
