Former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin is in all likelihood join Congress party soon and contest Lok Sabha elections to be held during April-May from Hyderabad seat.

It is learnt that Azhar had a brief and fruitful meeting with Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, recently, and expressed his desire to contest from a prestigious seat like Hyderabad.
Sonia is reportedly not against idea. Andhra Pradesh is ruled by Congress anyway.

Azhar, it should be recollected here, was allegedly involved in the now infamous match-fixing scandal.There were rumours, earlier, that Azhar would take plunge in politics and was keen to join either Telegana Rashtra Samiti or Praja Rajyam of Chiranjeevi.

After retiring from cricket, Azhar was running an event management company and a fitness club in Hyderabad.Azar’s son Assasuddin was in news last week when he was invited for a trials by Kolkata Knight Riders.
