calling the bluff

Certain individuals have the ability to always hog the limelight irrespective of time. Our Finance Minister is one of them. He was a junior Minister under Narasimharao dispensation. He was not considered to be worthyof being inducted to the Cabinet, At the height of PMS Scam triggered by Harshad Mehta, Mr. Chidhambaram admitted to have got promoter quota of shares from Ratnakar a dubious banker in his now defunct and infamous company, Fairgrowth financial services about which anything was unfair. He thought he will be rewarded for his honesty when he offered to resign. To his chagrin, he found a willing PM accepting his offer to clear his role in the scam. Thereafter he had to wait for 8 long years for a rehabilitation again as a Union Minister with enormous clout. He was often in controversies. Some one smelt a rat in his ministry giving licence to a foreign bank as a quid pro quo - allegedly though for having financed acquistion of shares of a textile mill owned by his own brother Lakshmanan Chettiar. The media was kind enough to rubbish this story. Thereupon Leftist charged him for having been in the board of Vedanta, which results in conflict of interests. Again the media backed him. He was accused of doing nothing to stop ill gotten and terrorist funds in stock market through Participatory notes, following a revelation by NSA that it is probable that terrorist networks operate in Indian stock markets. The Minister admitted in Parliament that a couple of cases have indeed come to his notice but it nothing to reveal anything more on it,. Yet the press was kind enough to him.

A People's watch dog body has now taken upon the task of unmasking him for his support to Du pont which now reneges the criminal liability on Bhopal Disaster., For the initiators, Du pont has taken over universally the assets and liabilities of erstwhile Union Carbide. It is a legally proven corallry that upon such M & A deals, all liabilities pass on the buyer just as the assets are transferred. But the Minister thought otherwise. His fellow Minister Kamal nath and Industrialist Ratan Tata have also supported the MNC and sought to relieve Du Pont from criminal liabilities. Well, people of India need to be told the kind of leaders they have chosen,. How can be anyone so heartless to the victims of a monumental tragedy due to gross negligence of a MNC on technical grounds ? Such watch dog bodies should unmask these politicians.
