UPA II believes that Food security bill and Direct Benefit Transfer will  fetch them rich dividends in 2014. The food security bill in its present form is watered down version of what was envisaged by NAC and what has been implemented in Raman Singh’s Chattisgarh. It guarantees food entitlements to poor households – 70% in rural areas and 50% in urban areas at subsidized rates. Economists claim that it will be a colossal waste of state resources and even amongst the Government there are people claim DBT should be gradually cover these entitlements as well. The amount of money required to run this welfare program is close to 1 trillion.
