With the installation of a Congress Government in Karnataka commentators are busy finding reason for BJP’s rout and fall from grace. The unanimous decision is the large scale corruption scandals that hit the government under Yeddyurappa and the reluctance with which the party took the decision to expel him. Yeddy’s party Karnataka Janapaksha managed to split the votes of Lingayats and this paved the way for installation of a Congress led Government. Some of them believe that BJP should welcome back Yeddyurappa before Laksabha polls are called.

However, I believe that it is not Yeddyurappa who caused the slide of the BJP in its southern stronghold. It was the corruption of Bellary brothers to whom BJP owes a lot for operation Swarna Kamal buying majority for the party  through money power. Bellary brothers were dutiful followers of Sushma Swaraj, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. Reddy brothers took the party by siege and were demanding their pound of flesh in their revolt against Yeddyurappa who was eased out due to their pressure and slighted the Lingayat Strongman who made the party a power to deal with in Karnataka by sheer dent of his hardwork.  No body has introspected this while conceding corruption charges dented the image of the party. Grand old man of the party who is fighting the Modi onslaught singlehandedly could not chide his pupil, Sushma Swaraj who was the mentor of Bellary Reddy  brothers who were mired in the mining scandals and booked by CBI. Sushma for all her tall talks in Parliament and repeated broadsides against Sonia Gandhi has been the mentor for Bellary brothers and also arranged a ceasefire in their earlier rebellion against Yeddyurappa

People may say that Yeddy stands charge sheeted by Lok ayukta but the charges are yet to be proven. The Lok Ayukta Mr.Santhosh Hegde was partisan giving interviews to channels on the corruption charges against Yeddyurappa. If BJP does not do amends for having promoted illegal mining and having propped up Reddy Brothers who were running a parallel government in Bellary , they will never claim the lost ground in Karnataka and could face a total rout in the Lok Sabha Elections. Blaming Yeddyurappa alone will do no good. They should concede that Yeddyurappa is by far most charismatic leader of BJP – Anathkumars and Eswarappas not withstanding.
