Not too long ago, in cold war era, USA claimed  itself to be a nation upholding individual liberties while the erstwhile USSR was a totalitarian regime- holding people together with strict policing often bordering on state intrusion in to citizens’ private life. Indian born British author George orwell authored two stories warning humanity of impending big brother snooping down over you- 1984 which is called the Orwellian year of doom and Animal farm where people are likened to animals in a farm in erstwhile communist countries. History has taken a full cycle with the arrival of Mikhail Gorbachev, by far one of the few greatest human beings who valued individual human values to state controls. His glasnost brought forth the ultimate disintegration of USSR in to many independent member states ( CIS as they are now known ) which are more serious balkanization on religious lines rather than craving for liberty.

That USA the self proclaimed super power would do anything to defend its own interests was evident when Bush Sr and Junior went after non existent Weapons of Mass destruction in Iraq to kill Saddam Hussein. But the American spirit of freedom was over flowing when Col. Brad Manning chose to leak some data mined for military strategies to Wikileaks. Brad Manning instead of being eulogized is pilloried in a military court martial. Then came the Edward Snowden saga when this now haunted  NSA spy contractor leaked out mined data collected  through stealth and intrusion in to private lives of citizens not only in USA  but throughout the world on the pretext of preventing another 9/11 attacks by Al-Qaida.  The British Government and European union were also privy to this outrageous cyber surveillance with little or no remorse. Snowden now has sought asylum in Russia under Vladimir Putin. I dedicate this to the memory of George Orwell.
