Are we a society of hypocrites?
Now for the first time a Black American can indeed become the President of the powerful republic in the world. USA had black atheletes, Jessee Owens, Edwin Moses, Carl Lewis, Tennis legends like Arthur Ashe, Williams sisters, the legendary Clausius Clay aka Muhammad Ali, but somehow the American physhe could not digest a black Amercian becoming President although it was precisely for this reason, Abraham Lincoln and later Martin Luther king fought for and laid their life for. Hats of to new America who have now made amends to the historical oppressive tactics.
Are we any different from racial prejudice? The Aryan Dravidian divide still is a political hot potato however I beg to disagree there was anything called such racial oppression in our country before the arrival of muslim invaders and colonial powers. Again that is another issue which requires to be analysed and discussed separately.
In the recent IPL matches there was a raging controversy that Punjab Lions team barred black cheer leaders from participating. Our women continue to be drawn in to believe that being fair skinned attracts more people and enlivens your opportunities. See the various adds in the media. They promise that you will change your skin color by applying their lotion for some time. some of them depict that only such fair skinned people succeed in interviews. the sales of such beauty cosmetic creams are increasing day by day. there are now creams for men too to change their color skin. In a country when more than 70% of people are dark skinned, such advertisements are directed against the principles of equality enshrined in our constitution. Yet we choose not to oppose them. We infact encourage such views and believe that color of the skin is really important. If this is not hypocrisy what else is that?
