CRISIS IN BJP- PART II

Historically Brahmins had been in the forefront of the society playing a leading role. The Varnashrama dharma had placed them in the top order followed by Kshatriyas, Vysyas, Sudras ( working class) The dharma prescribed for them was to shun material wealth and go in pursuit of knowledge, work for the upliftment of the society without expecting anything in return. The Society was expected to take care of them. They adorned chairs of many a courtroom of Kings providing advisory services in matters concerning administration, public welfare etc. Even in Epics, Rishis were supposed to be repository of all knowledge and they did not crave for material wealth. They had limited wants. Sage Vashista was one such saint who had such capabilities as to feed an army of King Gautama through his Kamadhenu the celestial cow. King fought with the sage only to be squarely beaten. King then takes up sanyas saying "Nahi Kshtirya Balam, Brahma Tejo Balam Balam" Knowlege of the Brahman is the ultimate in power is the meaning of this utterance.

Brahmins were never meant to be rulers. The only exception was Peshwas of Maharashtra who became rulers by accident. Even in epic days, a Dronacharya could not defeat King Drupada despite having been in possession of martial talents which he taught to Kauravas and Pandavas. Similarly Kautilya, better known as Chanakya could not defeat Dhana Nanda by himself but helped Chandragupta to dethrone him. Whenver they left their sudharma and breached the code of conduct society had abhorred them. So the efforts of the founders of RSS was in breach of the code of conduct that they could not enthuse the masses and become rulers.
