ENGAGING THY NEIGHBOUR

Christians believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ and they celebrate his holy resurrection with religious fervor every year on the day of Easter. Bible says about the ten commandments ordained by Moses which lists the dos and donts that human being should follow. Probably our Prime Minister should have been inspired by this biblical verses. Otherwise I see no merit in his argument that we should engage our neighbor through talks, talks and further talks to overcome differences whatever indiscretion your neighbor may commit.

Pakistan was initially in denial mode about its complicity in the Mumbai terror strikes even after we had caught one of the terrorists alive who later confessed to his crime. Dossiers were exchanged in order to satisfy Pakistani authorities about this savage cross border terrorism. Our diplomacy claimed a victory of sorts when UNSC ordered sanctions on LeT and its frontal organisations. Pakistani Government under international pressure put the chief of LeT under house arrest. The Court which freed him from house arrest opined that directions of UNSC can not be a reason for his detention and wanted to know if India fufilled an UNSC resolution on plebisicte on J & K little realising that this resolution was vetoed by USSR. What is happening in Pakistan under the name of law is farce and attempt to relieve the terrorists from any sustainable charge of terrorism whatever the evidences that we would have given.

US and allied forces are more worried about action taken on Taliban terrorists across Afgan border and are hardly concerned about bringing to book the guity of the crime against humanity perpetrated by trained Pakistani nationals on our people. Here you have a Prime Minister who dilutes our stand by agreeing to de link terrorism related issues from bilateral talks and also agreeing to discuss alleged involvement of RAW and Indian officials at Kandhahar in Baluchistan a claim put forward by Pakistan to show that it is as much a victim of terror as we are. This claim has also been acknowldged by our PM. There has been never a greater faux pass than this in our history. Perhaps Krishna Menon' bungling in referring J & K to UNSC could come a close second.

We can add the eleventh commandment now.

Thou Shall always engage your neighbour whatever crime he commits
